Getting around West Vancouver should be safe, reliable, and practical.
Traffic congestion affects residents every day, but growth should not outpace the infrastructure needed to support it. Before significant new development is approved, Council should understand its impact on roads, intersections, parking, transit, and community services, and have a realistic plan to address those impacts.
My Priorities
- Infrastructure before development. Growth and transportation planning must go hand in hand.
- Fix congestion where practical. Pursue targeted improvements such as better signal timing, intersection upgrades, and improved traffic management.
- Make safety a priority. Focus on school zones, pedestrian crossings, seniors, and locations with a history of collisions or safety concerns.
- Reduce construction disruption. Better coordinate roadwork and development projects to minimize unnecessary traffic delays.
- Support public transportation choices. Public transit is an important option for many residents, particularly seniors, students, and commuters. West Vancouver should work with TransLink to improve service where it can better meet residents' needs and help reduce congestion.
- Support practical walking and cycling improvements. Walking and cycling improvements should be pursued where evidence shows they will meaningfully improve safety, mobility, or access to community destinations.
- Use evidence-based decision-making. Residents deserve clear information about traffic impacts before major decisions are made.
- Work regionally. Partner with North Shore, Sea-to-Sky, and regional agencies to address congestion and transportation challenges that cross municipal boundaries.
My Approach
I support practical, evidence-based transportation solutions that improve safety, reduce congestion, and protect residents' quality of life. Transportation infrastructure should be planned ahead of growth, not added after problems emerge.
